Freedom from Toxic Tapes (Step 3): Truth and Transformation

This fall, our theme across cohorts and Faith & Work Lunches has been “Freedom from Toxic Tapes.” Together, we’ve explored what it means to take our thoughts captive and find freedom from the lies and strongholds that keep us tied up.

This month, we turned our attention to the power of God’s Word to bring truth and transformation—not only to our own hearts and minds, but to our relationships, our work environments, and even the everyday processes we rely on. When we submit our thoughts to His truth, we are freed to live as Kingdom people, bringing healing and reconciliation into our workplaces.

Transformation Requires Habits

Living in truth doesn’t happen by accident. It takes intention. That’s where spiritual habits come in.

Practices like sabbath, prayer, fasting, solitude, confession and repentance, generosity, scripture, Christian community, service, and witness form the foundation of a growing faith. They’re not just “extras” for our spiritual lives—they are the habits that shape us, align us with God’s truth, and equip us to live out transformation in our everyday work.

We asked:

  • Which of these habits have shaped your faith in the past or present?

  • How have they transformed your own heart, or even your workplace?

Practicing Together

As a group, we spent time in Scripture, reflecting on the passages below.

Each passage invited us to consider:

  • What truth is being conveyed?

  • How could applying this truth transform my relationships, my processes, or even the culture of my workplace?

Through both personal reflection and table discussion, we practiced slowing down, listening to God’s Word, and asking how it might reshape the way we approach our daily work.

Moving Forward

Scripture and prayer—sometimes paired with confession and repentance—are central to transformation. They are the practices that first renew our own hearts and then ripple outward into the lives of those we work alongside.

As you continue in your week, consider:

  • What spiritual habit might God be inviting you to lean into?

  • How might He use that practice to bring truth, renewal, and freedom in your workplace?

Let’s be people who don’t just hear the Word, but live it—becoming salt and light, seeking wisdom, and trusting our Father to give good gifts as we walk with Him.
