Meet Lee Mitchell

A Leader Rooted in Faith, Community, and Calling

Lee and his wife Erica are the proud parents of Madeline (6) and Amelia (3). They have two dogs Jack and Louie and a cat named Grey. For the last 15 years, Lee has worked full time for a national commercial bank serving in various executive roles. Erica is a Nurse Practitioner at VCU Health Systems and has a passion for serving families and improving their health. Lee started in ministry serving as co-leader for RVA United, a city wide ministry for 20-30 year olds in 2011. It was through RVA United, that he became familiar with Needle's Eye back in 2013.

He and Erica actually met while attending a Young Professional group through Needle's Eye and have been happily married for 11 years. Lee and Erica joke that they were one of the first of many Needle's Eye couples who met through YP and went on to get married. Lee served on the Board of Directors for 6 years and led our fundraising campaign for the 40th anniversary of the ministry. Lee attended the Richmond Christian Leadership Institute in 2018 and Lead Like Jesus RVA Encounter in 2022. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Crossover Healthcare Ministry and served as a bi-vocational pastor for a church in Varina. Lee and his family have a huge heart for the Metro Richmond area and seeing God’s kingdom come through the unity of the body of Christ.

Life Verse: "The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands." (Psalm 138:8, NASB)

Favorite Book Quote: “We actually build castles all the time, out of our jobs and our families and the things we've purchased. Some of these castles are impressive too. Lots of people come to admire what we've built over the course of our lives and tell us what great castles we have. But Jesus told His friends we weren't supposed to spend our lives building castles. He said He wanted us to build a kingdom, and there's a big difference between building a castle and building a kingdom. Castles have moats to keep creepy people out, but kingdoms have bridges to let everyone in. Castles have dungeons for people who have messed up, and kingdoms have grace. If we want a kingdom, then we start the way grace did, by drawing a circle around everyone and saying they're in. Kingdoms are built from the people up. There's no set of plans-just Jesus.” ― Bob Goff, Everybody, Always

Favorite Thing to Do with Family: We love to wake up on a Saturday morning and without much of a plan jump in the car and go visit one of the small towns all throughout Virginia. There are so many cool small towns in our state with some great local food.

What I Love: My family, a good cup of coffee, local restaurants, the Atlanta Braves (don't judge) & Flying Squirrels, anything near the water, and laughing a lot

Why Needle's Eye?: I have a heart for reaching lost men and women in the marketplace with the love of God and the truth of His word. I know how desperate so many of them are for real truth because for so many years I was one of them.

What Am I Looking Forward To?: Meeting each and every one of you! (the men and women involved in this ministry). Each one of you has a powerful story about the love of God and how He transforms lives. I can't wait to hear your stories and get the opportunity to share more of them across this city. God is up to something big in Richmond and I am excited that Needle's Eye, with all of you gets, to be a part of it.
