Reconciliation at Work: What It Means to Show Up as Women of Strength

This quarter at Needle’s Eye, we’re exploring what it means to live as ambassadors for Christ in the workplace. That conversation continued beautifully during our recent InfluenceHer gathering, where women shared honest, practical wisdom on living out reconciliation in real time at work.

Our panel featured three Cohort leaders, with our Director of Ministry, Leanne Lytle facilitating:

Liz Baker,
Founder of Nimbology and AI consultant

Melanie Roberts,
Financial Advisor

Sandy Thompson,
Process Improvement Consultant

Reconciliation Starts With Identity

We began by grounding ourselves in the truth that before we can reconcile others to Christ, our own thinking needs to be restored.

This includes recovering the true meaning of the Hebrew phrase ezer kenegdo — a term that speaks of a powerful rescuer, protector, and strength-bringer.

It’s a name used sixteen times for God Himself and often in the context of military strength. When applied to women, it reframes the conversation:

  • We are strong protectors.

  • We are created to bring strength into the spaces we occupy.

Sandy shared how this identity shifts her confidence and gives her courage to speak up.

Liz pointed to Paul’s reminder in 2 Timothy that God gives us “a spirit of power and a sound mind.”

And Melanie reflected on her experiences of being the only woman in the room and how the Spirit encourages her to stand firm even when she might be tempted to question her place.

Letting the Spirit Lead When It’s Hard

We asked what it looks like to “regard no one from the flesh,” especially when personalities, pressure, and office politics come into play.

Liz acknowledged the moments when our egos get bruised or our triggers flare – how daily rhythms with God keep our hearts soft:

“If you’re open to God daily, the Spirit kicks in quickly. When trouble comes, you’re ready.”

Sandy shared the simple, powerful gift of a pause — stepping back, praying before reacting, and using breath prayers before entering difficult meetings.

Seeing With God’s Eyes

We imagined what it might look like to see our workplaces through God’s eyes—to become instruments of peace and presence.

Sandy told a tender story about working with her supervisor, focusing on being a friend rather than proving a point:

“How can you lead if something negative is coming out of your mouth? Peace changes the room.”

Liz reminded us that grace becomes real when we extend it to those who are not easy to love.

Standing Secure in God’s Identity for Us

The world has plenty to say about women — and sometimes the church does too. But the identity Christ gives is stronger, steadier, and far more freeing.

One attendee shared that confidence rooted in Jesus helps her discern when to speak and when to be still. There’s no need to over-assert or prove anything:

“You can be strong without being aggressive. Grounded confidence creates discernment.”

Liz cast a picture of what happens when we all live from that rooted place:

“When we all understand our identity in Christ, we can walk this together.”

Growing Fruit Where We’re Planted

Fruit doesn’t show up overnight – it grows layer by layer. And the workplace becomes one of the most unexpected places where God cultivates reconciliation, courage, and compassion in us.

These women reminded us that the Spirit shapes us moment by moment: in conversations that require gentlenss, in rooms that call for courage, and in decisions that ask for wisdom.

As we continue exploring reconciliation this quarter, we step forward as women who carry Christ’s strength and peace into every space we enter – not from striving but from a steady rootedness in who He says we are.
